Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram launched a major anti-encroachment drive, removing 50,000+ sq ft of illegal structures across key areas to protect public land and infrastructure
Pune| 13 Feb 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has stepped up its citywide anti-encroachment campaign with renewed vigour, dismantling thousands of square feet of unauthorised structures across key localities as part of an intensified effort to reclaim public land and protect urban infrastructure.

Acting on orders from Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, PMC enforcement teams, led by Deputy Commissioner Somnath Bankar, carried out coordinated operations on Thursday across multiple zones including Sinhagad Road (Vadgaon Budruk), Bhavani Peth, Wanawadi–Ramtekdi and Nagar Road (Adarsh Nagar, Lohgaon), removing illegal constructions, tin sheds and encroachments stretching over an estimated 50,000+ square feet of reserved plots and public land.
A significant tranche of the action took place on land reserved for a Water Treatment Plant, where sprawling unauthorised structures posing threats to future civic works were dismantled to ensure the space remains available for critical infrastructure development.

PMC teams emphasise that formal notices are issued to encroachers in advance, offering opportunities for voluntary removal. Where compliance is not forthcoming, civic departments proceed with dismantling to uphold planning norms, protect traffic movement, and safeguard public utilities. Officials have affirmed that anti-encroachment operations will continue in phases, prioritising areas that obstruct reserved plots, public amenities, pedestrian movement, and future infrastructure projects.

The aggressive enforcement follows recent civic upgrades including widespread road improvement works during recent “Pune Grand Tour’ Cycle race that drew global attention and reflects the corporation’s dual focus on urban order and infrastructural efficiency. Residents and local stakeholders have often welcomed such drives, even as they highlight the recurring nature of encroachment challenges and the need for sustained monitoring and governance coordination.
