Kolhapur, February 21, 2026: A significant cultural milestone was marked in Kolhapur today with the inauguration of the Rajarshi Shahu Birthplace Museum, dedicated to the life and contributions of Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj. The museum, set up at Laxmi Vilas Palace in the historic Kasba Bawda area the birthplace of the revered ruler aims to preserve and showcase the legacy of one of Maharashtra’s most progressive and socially impactful leaders.

The inauguration ceremony took place on February 21, 2026, with cultural affairs and information technology officials presiding over the event. The museum’s establishment reflects a broader effort to celebrate and educate people about Shahu Maharaj’s pioneering reforms, particularly in the fields of social justice, education and equitable governance.
