Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan informed Rajya Sabha that 60% of high schools already have broadband, with full nationwide connectivity expected in 2-3 years alongside AI-based learning initiatives
New Delhi | 26 March, 2026: The Central government has announced an ambitious plan to provide broadband internet connectivity to all high schools across the country within the next two to three years. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stated that nearly 60 percent of high schools are already connected, and efforts are underway to bridge the remaining gap.

Responding to supplementary questions during the session, the minister emphasized the government’s focus on integrating artificial intelligence into the education system. He highlighted that both central and state governments are actively working on capacity-building programs to equip teachers with essential AI knowledge and skills.

Pradhan further noted that under the implementation of the National Education Policy’s revised curriculum, students will be introduced to basic AI concepts from Class 3 onwards. The move is aimed at preparing students for a technology-driven future by building foundational digital literacy at an early stage.

He also pointed out that most Indian languages have now been integrated with AI systems, which is expected to enhance accessibility and inclusivity in digital education. In a written response, the minister clarified that education falls under the concurrent list of the Constitution, with the majority of schools being governed by states and Union Territories.
The initiative reflects a broader push towards modernizing India’s education infrastructure while ensuring equitable access to digital resources across regions.
