Pune Police arrest two in Wagholi MD drug case, seize drugs, cars and assets worth ₹31 lakh in major crackdown.

April 16, 2026 | Pune: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Pune Police have busted an MD (Mephedrone) racket in Wagholi and arrested two accused, recovering drugs and assets worth over ₹31 lakh. The operation highlights the growing concern over synthetic drug circulation in rapidly developing areas of the city.

According to police officials, the action began during routine patrolling on April 5, when a team from Wagholi Police Station noticed suspicious movement near Satav Vasti Road. Acting on instinct, the officers approached a man who attempted to flee, immediately raising suspicion.

The individual was detained and identified as Yogesh Kangare (38), a resident of Lohgaon. During a search, police recovered around 5 grams of MD powder worth over ₹1 lakh, along with a four-wheeler. This initial seizure set off a chain of investigation that exposed a larger network.

During interrogation, Kangare revealed the name of his supplier, Sonu Singh alias Manuvendra Singh (42), based in Tingre Nagar. Acting swiftly, police tracked him down and arrested him as well. A search operation led to the recovery of additional MD drugs, a two-wheeler, and a mobile phone from his possession.

The investigation deepened further when police searched Singh’s residence. In a significant breakthrough, officers discovered a high-end Audi car parked at the location, inside which more MD powder was hidden. The total recovery included approximately 37 grams of MD drugs, along with two cars, a two-wheeler, and electronic devices. The combined value of the seized items was estimated at ₹31.06 lakh.

Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and confirmed that further investigation is underway to identify other members of the supply chain. Officials believe that this network may have been supplying drugs to local consumers, raising concerns about the spread of narcotics in Pune’s suburban belt.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of senior officers, including officials from Zone 7 and the Lonikand division, with a coordinated effort from multiple police personnel. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on drug-related crimes and ensuring stricter surveillance in sensitive areas.

This incident is part of a broader pattern, as Pune has witnessed multiple drug-related cases in recent months, indicating an evolving challenge for law enforcement agencies. With urban expansion and nightlife culture increasing, police are intensifying efforts to dismantle such networks before they grow further.
