Pune Police have launched a special against abandoned vehicles across the city, aiming to ease traffic congestion and improve urban aesthetics, with strict timelines for action and penalties for non-compliance.
April 16 | Pune: The Pune Traffic Police have initiated a special drive to identify and remove abandoned vehicles parked across various parts of the city. which began on Wednesday, seeks to address the growing issue of vehicles left unattended on roadsides for months, causing traffic disruptions and affecting the city’s appearance. As part of the initiative, authorities have appealed to citizens to report such vehicles using the PTP mobile application. Once a complaint is registered, police officials will verify the information and take action within 48 hours.
Officials stated that suspected abandoned vehicles will first be issued a notice. Following this, vehicle owners will be required to remove their vehicles within 24 hours. If the owner fails to comply within the stipulated time, the vehicle will be declared abandoned and subsequently seized by the police. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav stated that the movement is being carried out to ensure smoother traffic flow and to eliminate obstructions caused by long-standing parked vehicles. He emphasized that such vehicles not only create inconvenience for commuters but also hinder the city’s beautification efforts.
Once seized, the vehicles will be handed over to the municipal authorities. Owners will be required to pay a penalty before reclaiming their vehicles, making it essential for them to act promptly upon receiving notices.The traffic police have urged citizens to cooperate with the movement and take immediate steps to remove any unused or abandoned vehicles from public spaces. The move is expected to bring relief to commuters and improve overall traffic management in Pune.
