Five armed robbers loot cash and gold from Bank of Maharashtra in 20 minutes; manager attacked, police launch massive manhunt.

April 18, 2026 | Pune: In a shocking incident that has raised serious concerns over bank security, a group of armed men carried out a daylight robbery at a Bank of Maharashtra branch in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh, looting cash and valuables within just 15–20 minutes.

According to reports, the incident took place on Friday afternoon when the bank was crowded with customers. Around five armed men executed the robbery in a well-planned manner. Two of them initially entered the bank posing as customers, and within moments, three more accomplices joined them, all carrying weapons.

Once inside, the gang quickly took control of the premises, holding both staff and customers at gunpoint. Panic spread across the bank as the robbers threatened everyone and reportedly even fired a shot to create fear and ensure compliance.

The robbers then targeted the cash counter and lockers, particularly focusing on gold pledged under loan schemes. When the branch manager hesitated to cooperate, he was brutally assaulted with a gun butt and forced to hand over keys to the vault and lockers.

In a matter of minutes, the gang managed to escape with around ₹35 lakh in cash along with gold and silver jewellery, although some reports suggest the total loot could be significantly higher depending on the value of pledged gold.

Before fleeing, the attackers allegedly attempted to damage CCTV systems to erase evidence. They then escaped on two-wheelers towards nearby forest areas, making it difficult for authorities to immediately track their movement.

Police teams reached the spot soon after receiving information, but by then, the robbers had already fled. A large-scale manhunt has been launched, with district borders sealed and multiple teams deployed to trace the accused. CCTV footage from the bank and nearby areas is currently being analysed to identify the suspects and reconstruct their escape route.

Preliminary investigations have also pointed towards possible security lapses, including the absence of adequate on-site security at the time of the incident, which may have made it easier for the robbers to carry out the heist without resistance.

This incident has once again highlighted the growing boldness of organised criminal groups and the urgent need to strengthen security systems in financial institutions, especially during peak business hours.
