Russian President Vladimir Putin is preparing for a crucial visit to China in the coming days, shortly after high-level discussions between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping drew global attention. The proposed visit is being viewed as a significant geopolitical development amid shifting international alliances and rising tensions surrounding Iran, trade and global security.
According to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, preparations for Putin’s China visit are almost complete, indicating that the trip could take place very soon. Reports suggest the visit will focus on strengthening Russia-China strategic ties, expanding energy cooperation and reviewing recent diplomatic developments following Trump’s Beijing meetings.
The Russia-China relationship has grown significantly stronger over the past few years, especially after Western sanctions on Moscow following the Ukraine conflict. China has continued purchasing Russian oil despite pressure from the United States and European allies, while both nations have frequently coordinated positions on major international issues.
Global analysts believe Putin’s upcoming Beijing visit may also serve as a strategic response to improving US-China dialogue under Trump’s renewed diplomatic outreach. Although Trump and Xi recently held extensive discussions on trade, Iran and regional stability, neither side announced major policy breakthroughs, leaving room for Russia to reinforce its own influence in the region.

Putin and Xi Jinping have reportedly met more than 40 times over the years, making their partnership one of the closest strategic relationships in modern geopolitics. Their cooperation spans defence, energy, trade and technology sectors, with both countries frequently presenting a united front against Western influence.
The visit is expected to be closely watched by countries including India, the United States and European nations, particularly as ongoing global conflicts and energy concerns continue reshaping international alliances. Diplomatic experts say the meeting could influence future geopolitical equations across Asia and beyond.
