Senior IPS officer Ranjan Kumar Sharma has been officially appointed as the new Special Inspector General of Police for the Kolhapur Range, moving from his previous high-profile assignment as the Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) in Pune.

KOLHAPUR| May 23, 2026: In a significant top-tier administrative restructuring within the state police apparatus, the Maharashtra government has reassigned veteran IPS officer Ranjan Kumar Sharma to command the Kolhapur Range. Recognized across the department for his strategic expertise in crime control, public safety, and crisis management, Sharma previously served as the Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) for Pune City, where he operated in close coordination with Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar.

During his operational tenure in Pune, Sharma was instrumental in managing highly sensitive, high-profile criminal investigations and field deployments. Notably, he supervised the investigation and extensive manhunts related to the critical Swargate bus assault case, which had drawn severe public scrutiny regarding women’s safety measures. Furthermore, his administrative leadership was heavily tested during heightened regional tensions involving prominent organized crime networks, including enforcement actions against the Gaja Marne syndicate, as well as handling volatile public order situations involving the Andekar and Gaiwal criminal factions.
