Rising Czech tennis star Jakub Mensik voiced strong frustration over the scorching conditions at the French Open after surviving a physically draining second-round battle against Argentina’s Mariano Navone at Roland Garros.

Mensik secured a dramatic five-set victory in a match lasting nearly five hours, eventually overcoming Navone in a tense deciding-set tiebreak to advance into the third round of the tournament. However, moments after sealing the win, the 20-year-old collapsed on the clay court due to severe cramps and exhaustion caused by the intense Paris heat.

Temperatures reportedly crossed 30 degrees Celsius during the contest, with several players struggling to cope with the extreme weather conditions throughout the tournament. Mensik later described the situation as “insane,” questioning whether players should be competing under such brutal daytime temperatures.

Medical staff rushed onto the court immediately after the match, providing treatment and cooling assistance before helping the visibly exhausted player recover. Despite the alarming scenes, Mensik later confirmed he was feeling better and hoped to regain fitness ahead of his third-round clash.

The dramatic incident has reignited discussions about player welfare and match scheduling during extreme weather conditions at Grand Slam tournaments. Tennis stars including Novak Djokovic also reportedly expressed concerns regarding the scheduling of matches during peak afternoon heat in Paris.

Mensik’s gritty performance nevertheless highlighted his fighting spirit and growing reputation on the ATP Tour. The young Czech talent managed to hold his nerve in the deciding moments despite battling physical distress and fatigue throughout the encounter.

The French Open has already witnessed several physically demanding matches this week as players continue adapting to unusually high temperatures at Roland Garros, raising fresh concerns about athlete safety during heatwave conditions.
