05 June 2026 Pune : In a significant political development, NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) leader Vikram Kakade is set to be elected unopposed to the Maharashtra Legislative Council from the Pune Local Authorities Constituency after rival candidates withdrew their nominations.

The development has effectively concluded the electoral contest before polling, paving the way for Kakade’s entry into the Upper House. Political observers view the outcome as a reflection of the broad support Kakade enjoys among elected representatives of local self-government bodies across Pune district.

Despite initial political speculation and internal discussions over the candidature, the ruling alliance ultimately rallied behind a consensus candidate, resulting in a smooth and uncontested election process. The withdrawal of rival nominations is being seen as an endorsement of Kakade’s organizational reach and his long-standing engagement with local governance institutions.

Kakade’s expected election is also being viewed as a positive signal of political coordination and consensus-building in a constituency that has traditionally witnessed competitive contests. His elevation to the Legislative Council is likely to strengthen Pune’s representation on issues related to urban infrastructure, local governance, regional development, and civic administration.

With the election set to be completed without a vote, attention is now turning to Kakade’s future role in articulating Pune district’s development priorities at the state level.
