The National Testing Agency (NTA) scrambled on Tuesday to patch critical security vulnerabilities within its NEET UG portal. The rapid technical intervention came immediately after a 16-year-old “cybersecurity researcher,” identified as Rylen Anil, publicly sounded the alarm on the social media platform X, warning that the digital loophole could be weaponized by malicious actors.

According to internal agency sources, a technical weakness had briefly compromised the website’s integrity. While officials confirmed the emergency repair job was complete, they stopped short of endorsing the full scale of damage the researcher claimed could have occurred.

Reeling under intense public pressure over recent paper leak controversies, the NTA moved rapidly to protect sensitive infrastructure. The flaw potentially opened a backdoor for outsiders to harvest restricted details linked to examination observers, test centers, and center coordinators including full names, active mobile numbers, and email addresses.

The young researcher alleged that the administrative gaps went far beyond basic data exposure. He asserted that the bypass could have enabled unauthorized entities to export internal databases, generate official appointment letters, alter observer records, upload custom templates, and tamper with administrative mappings tied to the competitive examination process. These disclosures triggered widespread panic among thousands of students, parents, and digital safety monitoring groups.

As technical screenshots went viral, panicked users noticed the re-examination portal link temporarily went offline, serving a standard “404 Not Found” error.

The unexpected blackout sparked massive speculation regarding emergency backend fixes or active hacking. By Tuesday evening, NTA officials reassured the public that comprehensive corrective measures were securely implemented, confirming the portal had returned to normal operations.
