Punit Balan has been elected as the President of the newly constituted board of trustees of the Late Shrimati Laxmibai Dagdusheth Halwai Datt Mandir Trust. The appointment follows the conclusion of legal and administrative proceedings regarding the trust’s trustee selection process, paving the way for the formation of a new governing body.

The newly announced trustee board includes Raju Balkawade as Executive Trustee, while Advocate Vivek Bhargude and Varsha Thorve have been appointed as Vice Presidents. Suraj Thorat has been entrusted with the responsibility of Treasurer. Nitin Pandit has been named Festival Chief, and Manishatai Khedekar will serve as Deputy Festival Chief. Parag Kalakar and Mahendrasheth Gadhave have also been inducted as trustees.
The announcement comes after a period of controversy surrounding the trustee selection process. Certain individuals had alleged irregularities in the election and appointment procedures. However, following an inquiry into the matter, the court clarified that no irregularities had occurred during the selection process. Subsequently, the appointment of the new board was finalized in accordance with the directives issued by the Charity Commissioner.
The formation of the new trustee body is expected to provide renewed momentum to the temple’s religious, cultural and social initiatives. Devotees and stakeholders associated with the trust have welcomed the development, expressing confidence that the newly elected leadership will further strengthen the institution’s role in serving the community.

Reacting to his appointment, newly elected President Punit Balan welcomed the Charity Commissioner’s decision and described it as a reaffirmation of faith in the judicial process. He stated that the trust would continue to uphold the temple’s traditions, spiritual values and cultural heritage while expanding welfare-oriented and community-centric initiatives. Balan emphasized that serving devotees would remain the trust’s highest priority and affirmed the board’s commitment to strengthening its social responsibilities through meaningful public welfare activities.
