A late-night political meeting at Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ official residence, ‘Varsha’, has triggered intense speculation about possible political realignments involving the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction). Senior party leader Jayant Patil met Chief Minister Fadnavis along with NCP leaders Praful Patel and Sunil Tatkare, with discussions reportedly continuing for a considerable period.

The meeting has fuelled widespread political buzz that Jayant Patil could be preparing to join the Ajit Pawar-led faction of the Nationalist Congress Party and subsequently become part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Although no official statement has been issued by any of the leaders involved, the timing and nature of the meeting have sparked significant debate within Maharashtra’s political circles.

The development comes amid reports of growing unease within the Sharad Pawar-led NCP, where some legislators are believed to favour extending support to the ruling alliance. Political observers have also linked the discussions to the ongoing debate surrounding the proposed delimitation legislation, with speculation that the Sharad Pawar faction could eventually support the government on the issue.

There is also considerable discussion over whether Jayant Patil is acting as an intermediary in ongoing political negotiations or whether he has independently established communication channels with the Bharatiya Janata Party. However, neither possibility has been officially confirmed.

The meeting has gained additional significance following recent remarks by Praful Patel, who publicly suggested that certain organisational issues within the Ajit Pawar-led NCP need to be addressed. His comments led to renewed speculation about internal differences within the party, further adding to the political uncertainty.

Against this backdrop, the high-profile gathering at ‘Varsha’ is being viewed as an important political development that could influence the future course of Maharashtra politics. While political observers continue to analyse its implications, all eyes remain on whether the discussions translate into any formal announcement in the coming days.
