Maharashtra’s Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare announced a six-month extension for beneficiaries to complete e-KYC under the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, offering relief to women amid confusion over the scheme.
Mumbai, 26th July 2026: The Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, one of the most politically significant welfare schemes in Maharashtra, has once again come into sharp focus after Minister Aditi Tatkare announced a fresh window for beneficiaries to complete their e-KYC formalities. The clarification comes at a time when confusion and misinformation around the scheme’s implementation had been circulating widely, while several eligible women who had not completed their e-KYC verification were facing disruptions in receiving regular benefits.
Addressing the media, Tatkare stated that the government has extended the e-KYC deadline by a full six months, a move she described as a major relief for beneficiaries across the state. She said the decision was aimed squarely at ensuring that no genuinely eligible woman is denied the monthly assistance due to procedural delays.
The minister further clarified that women who had already completed their e-KYC but whose applications contained errors or missing details would also get a dedicated opportunity to correct these discrepancies. She said the government’s objective was to make the scheme function more smoothly and ensure its benefits reach every rightful beneficiary without interruption.
Tatkare’s announcement follows weeks of reports flagging lakhs of pending e-KYC verifications and concerns among beneficiaries about possible removal from the scheme. The Women and Child Development department had earlier maintained that data verification exercises, including cross-checks with other government records, were routine steps meant to weed out ineligible entries rather than penalise genuine applicants.
With the extended timeline now in place, officials expect a smoother rollout of the verification process, allowing more women to complete the formality without the pressure of an imminent cut-off. The government has reiterated its commitment to the scheme’s continuity, positioning it as a flagship welfare initiative central to its outreach among women voters across Maharashtra.
