Pune Ganeshotsav 2026: DJs and Loudspeakers Allowed Till Midnight on 5 Days

Pune Police have allowed DJs and loudspeakers till midnight on five Ganeshotsav days: September 19, 20, 22, 23 and 25, subject to noise limits.

Pune, September 16, 2026: Pune Police have permitted Ganesh mandals to use loudspeakers and DJ sound systems until midnight on five specified days during Ganeshotsav 2026.

The relaxation will apply on September 19, 20, 22, 23 and 25. On the remaining days of the festival, sound systems will have to be switched off by 10 pm, in accordance with the applicable rules.

The decision comes amid discussions over the use of amplified sound during Pune’s 10-day Ganeshotsav celebrations. While mandals have sought flexibility for festival programmes, citizens and environmental groups have also raised concerns about noise levels and compliance with prescribed regulations.

Noise Limits Still Apply

The midnight permission does not mean that mandals can operate sound systems without restrictions.

Pune Police have made it clear that organisers must remain within the prescribed noise limits. Authorities have also specified a maximum setup of four bass speakers and four top speakers for festival and public celebrations.

Police have warned that organisers violating the prescribed sound limits could face legal action, including criminal proceedings.

Five Specific Days Identified

The midnight relaxation will be available on:

• September 19
• September 20
• September 22
• September 23
• September 25

On other Ganeshotsav days, loudspeakers and amplified sound systems will have to be shut down by 10 pm.

Noise Pollution Debate Continues

The decision has come amid a wider debate in Pune over noise pollution during festivals.

A Pune resident, Vidyanand Bapat, recently issued a legal notice to senior police, civic and pollution-control authorities seeking stricter enforcement of noise regulations during Ganeshotsav. The notice raised concerns about high-powered DJs, amplified sound systems and other sources of noise pollution.

The legal notice also referred to existing court and National Green Tribunal directions concerning noise pollution and called for effective monitoring during the festival.

Authorities to Monitor Compliance

Police officials have emphasised that the midnight relaxation is conditional on compliance with the prescribed noise standards.

Authorities have also been coordinating with Ganesh mandals and sound-system representatives ahead of the festival. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has previously warned that violations of noise limits could lead to FIRs and court proceedings.

With large crowds expected across Pune during Ganeshotsav, authorities are also focusing on traffic management, crowd control and public safety alongside enforcement of noise regulations.

The five-day midnight relaxation is therefore expected to provide additional time for festival activities while keeping sound levels subject to existing legal limits.
