PMC Demolishes 100+ Encroachments in Kausar Baug Following High Court Directions

PMC demolished more than 100 alleged encroachments in Kausar Baug, Kondhwa, following Bombay High Court directions. Residents have raised concerns over remaining structures.

Pune, October 3, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has demolished more than 100 alleged unauthorised structures and encroachments in Kausar Baug, Kondhwa, following directions issued by the Bombay High Court.

The anti-encroachment action was carried out after complaints concerning unauthorised structures and roadside encroachments in the area. The High Court, in its September 10 order, directed the authorities to examine the complaints in accordance with law and observed that keeping roadsides free from encroachments is the responsibility of the civic administration.

PMC’s anti-encroachment team began the demolition drive against structures associated with hotels and other establishments in the Kausar Baug area.

PMC Deputy Commissioner Somnath Bankar said the civic body was taking action in accordance with applicable rules and the court’s directions. He said the drive was being conducted systematically and that establishments found violating the rules would face action.

Residents Raise Concerns Over Remaining Encroachments

While several residents welcomed the demolition drive, some members of the Kausar Baug Residents Forum said that not all alleged encroachments had been removed.

Residents have sought completion of the action and regular monitoring to ensure that removed encroachments do not return. According to the residents’ representatives quoted in local reports, the current drive is part of a broader, three-phase action plan.

Some residents have also raised allegations of selective action, saying that certain structures remain despite the ongoing demolition drive. These claims are those of residents and have not been independently established.

The residents’ forum has indicated that it plans to place its concerns before the PMC Commissioner and seek implementation of the High Court’s directions in full.

Police Deployment During Drive

The Kondhwa Police provided security during the demolition operation. Police Inspector Santosh Khetmalas said three special teams had been formed and around 60 police personnel were deployed to maintain law and order during the drive.

The operation was reportedly conducted without a major law-and-order incident.

PMC Faces Pressure to Continue Action

The Kausar Baug drive comes amid wider scrutiny of PMC’s enforcement of encroachment and pedestrian-related regulations.

A separate recent petition before the Bombay High Court has alleged inadequate implementation of earlier directions concerning pedestrian rights, including removal of footpath encroachments and provision of unobstructed pedestrian passages in Pune.

For Kausar Baug residents, the immediate focus is now on whether the PMC will complete the remaining action and maintain the cleared areas.

The civic administration’s next steps will determine whether the demolition drive results in a sustained reduction in roadside encroachments or whether residents’ concerns about remaining structures continue.
