The special court in Pune has authorized an identity parade and a psychiatric evaluation for the accused in the Nasrapur case, with formal charges likely to be framed on May 28.

Pune | May 22, 2026: The Special Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Court in Pune has granted permission to law enforcement authorities to conduct a formal identity parade and a comprehensive medical evaluation of the prime accused in the Nasrapur minor assault and murder case. Special Judge S. R. Salunkhe approved the applications submitted by the prosecution on Thursday, aimed at determining the mental competency of the accused to stand trial and solidifying identifying evidence.

The accused, identified as Bhimrao Prabhakar Kamble, faces multiple charges under the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act at the Rajgad police station for the alleged sexual assault and murder of a three-and-a-half-year-old girl. The investigative team, represented by Special Public Prosecutor Advocate Ajay Misar, has already submitted an extensive 1,100-page chargesheet to the court. The formal judicial proceedings commenced on Thursday with senior police officials, including Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandip Singh Gill, in attendance. Kamble, currently in judicial custody, attended the session via video conferencing.

During the hearing, the prosecution confirmed that a complete copy of the chargesheet had been successfully served to the accused. Acknowledging the gravity of the case, Judge Salunkhe directed the District Legal Services Authority to appoint an experienced defense counsel to ensure adequate legal representation for Kamble. The court mandated that both the identity parade and the psychological assessment must be finalized before the next scheduled hearing.

Furthermore, the court accepted a joint request from both the prosecution and the defense to produce the accused physically during the upcoming session to facilitate confidential consultations between Kamble and his newly appointed legal aid counsel. The prison administration has been instructed to present the accused in person under stringent security protocols.
