NEW DELHI | May 25, 2026 : US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced in New Delhi that a monumental diplomatic breakthrough between the United States and Iran is imminent, promising positive global news within hours. The proposed peace accord aims to officially terminate the US-Israel conflict with Iran and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint closed to most vessels since February 28. The blockade has severely strained global energy markets, making its phased, toll-free reopening a central pillar of the pact.

US President Donald Trump confirmed via Truth Social that extensive negotiations involving the US, Iran, and key regional nations including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and Bahrain have yielded a comprehensive framework. Trump also noted highly positive discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the development. According to reports, the multi-phase agreement demands that Iran transfer its highly enriched uranium stockpile to Russia or completely dilute it within a sixty-day window, during which a strict ceasefire will remain in effect.

In return, the United States will lift its economic blockade on Iranian ports, granting Tehran renewed access to international markets for oil and natural gas sales. While the draft primarily targets an end to the Israel-Hezbollah conflict, it notably preserves Israel’s strategic autonomy to conduct security operations if threatened.

Despite Trump’s optimistic outlook, Iranian officials have cautioned that significant friction points persist. Sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz, the long-term future of Iran’s nuclear program, and the status of Tehran-backed militant groups in Lebanon remain contentious subjects. Nevertheless, Rubio expressed immense confidence that the final text would comprehensively address Washington’s security concerns, neutralize nuclear proliferation fears, and permanently restore stability to the volatile West Asian geopolitical landscape.
