Four senior leaders, including Ajanta Neog and Atul Bora, will join Himanta Biswa Sarma’s new Assam Cabinet as the BJP-led NDA prepares for its swearing-in ceremony in Guwahati on Tuesday.

Guwahati | May 12, 2026 |Ahead of the formation of the new BJP-led government in Assam, Chief Minister-designate Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday announced the names of four ministers who will take oath alongside him during the swearing-in ceremony in Guwahati.
The leaders selected for the new Cabinet are former Union Minister Rameswar Teli, Asom Gana Parishad president Atul Bora, UPPL leader Charan Boro and senior BJP MLA Ajanta Neog. Sarma also confirmed that BJP legislator Ranjit Das will be the ruling NDA’s candidate for the post of Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly.
The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled to be held at Khanapara in Guwahati and is expected to witness the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and several senior NDA leaders from across the country.
In a statement shared on social media, Sarma congratulated the newly chosen ministers and expressed confidence that the team would work collectively towards strengthening Assam’s growth and development agenda. The announcement comes shortly after Sarma was unanimously elected leader of the BJP Legislature Party and the NDA alliance in the state, paving the way for his second consecutive term as Chief Minister.

The BJP-led NDA registered a decisive victory in the recently concluded Assam Assembly elections, retaining power comfortably in the northeastern state. Political observers view the inclusion of leaders from alliance partners AGP and UPPL as a strategic move to maintain coalition balance while ensuring regional representation in the Cabinet. Ranjit Das’s nomination for the Speaker’s post is also being seen as a significant organisational decision by the ruling alliance as the new Assembly prepares to begin its term. The new government is expected to focus on infrastructure expansion, welfare measures, investment, and regional development during its upcoming tenure.
