The Maharashtra government has issued a fresh notification for the Shaktipeeth Highway, identifying 78 villages across eight talukas in Kolhapur for land acquisition while adjusting the route to address local concerns.
Kolhapur | 08 May 2026: The state government has officially moved forward with the ambitious Shaktipeeth Highway project by publishing a new notification on Tuesday, May 5. This latest administrative update marks a significant step in the development of the 760-kilometer expressway, which is designed to connect Nagpur to Goa via several major pilgrimage sites.

In a strategic shift, the revised alignment now covers 78 villages within the Kolhapur district. The notification confirms that the highway will pass through eight talukas, including:
- Chandgad
- Panhala
- Kagal (including two new villages)
- Ajara
- Radhanagari
- Bhudargad
- Karveer
- Hatkanangale (including one new village)

Notably, the government has excluded the Shirol taluka from this notification following sustained opposition from local residents and farmer groups. The “Shaktipeeth” route is intended to link the prominent religious hubs of Mahur, Tuljapur, and Kolhapur, aiming to reduce regional travel times and stimulate the economy of Western Maharashtra.
With the notification now public, authorities are expected to begin the formal land valuation and acquisition processes. While the project promises enhanced connectivity for the region, it continues to draw attention from stakeholders regarding environmental impact and fair compensation for those in the notified zones.
