India Post will introduce a new premium delivery service called “24 Speed Post” from March 17, offering guaranteed next-day delivery for urgent consignments across six major metropolitan cities in India.

New Delhi | March 16, 2026: The Department of Posts is set to launch a new express logistics service titled “24 Speed Post”, aimed at ensuring next-day guaranteed delivery of parcels and important documents across major metropolitan cities in India.

The service will officially be launched on March 17 by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia along with Minister of State for Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani at an event in New Delhi. The initiative is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen postal logistics and enhance the speed and reliability of delivery services across key commercial corridors.

Under the new facility, customers will be able to send time-sensitive consignments that are assured to reach their destination within 24 hours, also referred to as a D+1 delivery timeline. The service is expected to benefit businesses, government agencies and individuals who require urgent and reliable parcel delivery.

In the first phase, the “24 Speed Post” service will be available in six major metropolitan cities — Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. These cities represent some of the busiest economic and logistics hubs in the country, making them ideal for the initial rollout of the premium service.

Along with the next-day delivery option, the Department of Posts will also introduce another service named “48 Speed Post”, which will provide guaranteed delivery within two days (D+2). The faster delivery timelines will be supported through dedicated processing windows and priority air transmission to ensure quicker movement of parcels between major locations.

Officials stated that the new services will come with several upgraded features designed to improve reliability and transparency. These include OTP-based secure delivery to ensure parcels are handed over to the correct recipient, end-to-end tracking of consignments and SMS alerts that allow customers to monitor the status of their shipment in real time.

The upgraded logistics system is also expected to benefit business customers, particularly e-commerce companies and corporate users that depend heavily on fast and predictable delivery timelines. According to officials, additional facilities such as free pickup for bulk shipments, API integration for digital platforms and centralised billing options will be introduced to make the service more convenient for large-scale users.

The launch of “24 Speed Post” is seen as an important step by India Post to strengthen its position in the rapidly evolving logistics and courier sector, where private delivery companies have gained significant market share in recent years. By offering guaranteed delivery timelines and improved tracking systems, the postal department aims to provide a competitive alternative to private courier services.

Authorities believe that the new service will enhance customer confidence in government-run logistics infrastructure while also improving efficiency in handling urgent consignments. If the pilot phase in the six metro cities proves successful, the service may be expanded to additional cities across the country in the future.

The introduction of “24 Speed Post” marks a major upgrade in India Post’s delivery capabilities and reflects the department’s broader effort to modernise postal services and adapt to the growing demand for faster parcel delivery in the digital economy.
