Katraj PMPML Bus Stop May Shift Again Towards Wonder City Amid Metro and Flyover Work

Pune traffic police have proposed shifting the Katraj PMPML bus stop another kilometre towards Wonder City amid Metro and flyover work, raising commuter concerns.

PUNE: Commuters travelling through Katraj Chowk may soon have to walk farther to catch PMPML buses, as Pune traffic police have proposed shifting the main bus stop another kilometre towards Wonder City amid ongoing Metro and flyover construction work.

The proposed relocation comes after the bus stop was reportedly shifted three times in the past two months. The frequent changes have inconvenienced daily passengers who depend on Katraj Chowk as an important interchange for public transport.

Construction Work Adds to Commuter Difficulties

Metro construction at Katraj Chowk and work on the proposed flyover have narrowed roads, introduced diversions and reduced the space available for buses. Commuters have also pointed out that shared autorickshaws now occupy parts of the area previously used as a main bus stop.

Passengers say repeated relocations make it difficult to identify the correct boarding point. Another shift could create additional challenges for senior citizens, women, people carrying luggage and passengers who need to walk along busy roads.

Traffic Police Cite Congestion

Traffic police have proposed moving the bus stop to reduce congestion at the junction. According to traffic officials, PMPML buses that begin their journeys from Katraj Chowk sometimes arrive early and remain parked while waiting for their scheduled departure. The size of the buses and the limited space available at the junction contribute to traffic congestion.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sandeep Bhajibhakare said the revised location had been suggested in coordination with PMPML to improve traffic movement around the construction site.

PMPML Raises Concerns Over Accessibility

PMPML Chairman and Managing Director Mahesh Awhad said the transport undertaking had cooperated with Metro-related construction work and relocated bus stops several times. However, he expressed concern that moving the stop another kilometre towards Wonder City would make it too far for passengers to access conveniently.

Commuters have urged the authorities to find a solution that accommodates construction and traffic management without placing the entire burden on public transport users.

The final decision on the proposed shift will be important for thousands of passengers who use Katraj Chowk to connect with buses serving different parts of Pune.
