West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari issued a fierce warning to illegal Bangladeshi immigrants to leave India immediately, as the state aggressively deploys a strict ‘Detect, Delete, and Deport’ policy
May 27, 2026 | Kolkata: Illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators will find no shelter in West Bengal, and those failing to leave the country immediately will face uncompromising administrative action. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari issued this stern ultimatum on Tuesday, declaring that the state administration has no intention of keeping illegal migrants in prisons and feeding them at the taxpayers’ expense.
This high-decibel warning coincides with a volatile situation unfolding at the Hakimpur checkpost in the North 24 Parganas district, where over 100 suspected Bangladeshi nationals have gathered since Tuesday. Reports indicate that these individuals had been residing illegally across various pockets of West Bengal for an extended period. The sudden massing at the border follows the state government’s aggressive enforcement of its newly minted ‘Detect, Delete, and Deport’ policy. Under this directive, all district collectors have been strictly ordered to establish localized holding centers to manage illegal foreign factions.

In line with this policy, Murshidabad has officially become the first district in West Bengal to operationalize a functional holding center dedicated to illegal foreign nationals. The facility has already processed its first detainees, housing three Bangladeshi nationals who were recently apprehended for entering Indian territory without valid documentation. According to the newly established state protocol, suspected foreign nationals can be detained in these high-security centers for a maximum of 30 days. During this month-long detention window, intelligence and administrative authorities will conduct exhaustive background checks to verify their true identity, citizenship status, and cross-border documentation. The state’s multi-layered crackdown signals a massive shift in immigration enforcement.
