LPG e-KYC Not Mandatory for All Consumers, Government Urges Judicious Gas Usage
The Centre clarified LPG e-KYC is required only for unverified users, not all consumers, while advising households to use cooking gas carefully amid concerns over supply chain disruptions.
June 23 , 2026 | New Delhi The Central government has clarified that biometric Aadhaar-based e-KYC is not mandatory for all LPG consumers, putting to rest widespread confusion over reports suggesting otherwise. According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the verification process is required only for those customers whose details are yet to be authenticated.The ministry emphasised that no new rule has been introduced mandating e-KYC for every consumer, and rumours about LPG connections being discontinued for non-compliance are unfounded. Officials stated that the ongoing drive aims primarily to eliminate fraudulent connections and ensure only genuine beneficiaries remain in the system.
Amid emerging concerns over potential supply chain disruptions, the government has also advised citizens to use domestic LPG sparingly. The appeal comes as authorities closely monitor global energy developments and their possible impact on India’s fuel availability. In a related development, India recently received significant LPG shipments, including the vessel ‘Nandadevi’, which arrived at Kandla port carrying approximately 46,500 tonnes of gas. Another ship, ‘Shivalik’, had docked earlier, ensuring steady supply in the short term.
The government also dismissed reports of logistical disruptions at Jawaharlal Nehru Port, stating that container handling is proceeding as per established protocols. Officials confirmed that petrol and diesel stocks remain sufficient across the country. To curb black marketing and hoarding of LPG cylinders, enforcement agencies have intensified checks nationwide. Nearly 12,000 inspections have been conducted in recent days, leading to the seizure of around 15,000 cylinders. Meanwhile, discussions on energy security were also held at international forums, reflecting India’s proactive approach to managing potential global supply challenges.
