Young entrepreneur and sports administrator Puneet Balan has been elected unopposed as President of the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI). The newly announced 2026-30 executive committee includes 22 office-bearers from across the country

Ranchi | 22 June 2026: Puneet Balan, a prominent entrepreneur and sports administrator from Maharashtra, has been elected unopposed as the President of the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI). The election for the federation’s 2026-2030 term was held in Ranchi, Jharkhand, on Sunday, with representatives from 22 state associations participating in the process.

The newly constituted executive committee reflects broad national representation, with office-bearers selected from various states across India. A total of 22 officials were elected to key positions within the federation.

Balan is widely recognized for his consistent support of sporting initiatives and athlete development programs. His appointment is expected to bring fresh momentum to the growth and modernization of kabaddi in India, while strengthening the sport's presence at the international level.

Former Member of Parliament Ramdas Tadas from Vidarbha has been appointed as President Emeritus, while Rajkumar Singh of Bihar has been named Chief Patron. Ushi Reddy from Telangana has been elected General Secretary. Several other important positions within the executive committee have also been filled through unanimous selection.

The election process was overseen by former High Court judge Justice Ratnakar Bhengra, who served as the Election Officer. Retired District Judge Pankaj Srivastava acted as Assistant Election Officer and supervised the proceedings.

Among those present during the election were Arun Singh, Dr. Rajesh Gupta, Vivek Reddy, Rahul Singh, Chetan Govind Jha, Rajesh Singh, Manoj Sharma, Kunal M. Tripathi, Sammi Singh, Sujal Keshari, Pradeep Tirkey and other federation officials.

I sincerely thank all the state associations and office-bearers across the country for entrusting me with the responsibility of leading the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India. Kabaddi is India’s traditional sport and is deeply connected with our people. We are committed to strengthening the sport globally, creating opportunities for talented players from rural areas, developing modern training infrastructure, and encouraging greater participation of women and young athletes. Together with all office-bearers and state associations, we will work towards the holistic development of Indian kabaddi and strive to bring greater success for the country on the international stage,” said Puneet Balan, the newly elected President of AKFI.
