PCMC seals 14 ready-mix concrete plants for air pollution violations, intensifies action against dust and environmental non-compliance.

Pune, April 22, 2026: In a strong action against rising air pollution, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has sealed 14 Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) plants across the city for failing to comply with environmental norms. The crackdown comes amid growing concerns over dust pollution and deteriorating air quality in rapidly developing areas.

According to civic officials, the action was taken after multiple inspections revealed serious violations, including the absence of dust control systems, improper material storage, and failure to follow pollution mitigation guidelines. These lapses were contributing significantly to airborne particulate matter, especially in construction-heavy zones of Pimpri-Chinchwad.

The civic body had earlier issued notices to several RMC units, directing them to install pollution control mechanisms such as water sprinkling systems, wind barriers, and covered storage for raw materials. However, 14 plants were found to be non-compliant even after repeated warnings, prompting authorities to take strict enforcement action.

Officials stated that the move is part of a broader campaign to curb construction-related pollution, which has emerged as a major contributor to poor air quality in urban areas. With increasing infrastructure development and real estate activity, dust emissions from construction sites and concrete plants have been under scrutiny.

Environmental experts have welcomed the decision, noting that such enforcement is essential to ensure accountability among industrial operators. They emphasized that RMC plants must adhere to guidelines not only to avoid penalties but also to protect public health, particularly in densely populated urban zones.

PCMC has also indicated that inspections will continue in the coming weeks, and strict action will be taken against any unit found violating environmental norms. The civic body is urging all construction-related industries to comply with regulations and adopt sustainable practices.

The sealing of 14 RMC plants sends a clear message that environmental violations will not be tolerated. As urban development continues, balancing growth with air quality protection remains a critical priority for authorities.
