Residents of Pisoli have once again raised the alarm over a string of unresolved civic problems, urging the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and other authorities to step in and improve public safety and basic amenities in the fast-growing locality. Key concerns flagged by locals include a rising stray dog population, recurring monsoon waterlogging, erratic PMC water supply, absence of streetlights and footpaths, overflowing drains, weak storm-water drainage, lack of CCTV cameras, and the need for stronger police patrolling.
The area near Unnati Avenue has emerged as one of the worst-hit spots, where even light rainfall leads to severe water accumulation, disrupting traffic and creating health hazards from stagnant water. Residents have also called for sterilisation and vaccination drives for stray dogs, along with designated feeding zones to manage the population scientifically while addressing safety concerns.
Local resident Dilip Lathi noted that despite Pisoli’s rapid residential growth, civic infrastructure has failed to keep pace, leaving residents to deal with poor roads and inadequate drainage. Another resident, Akif Shaikh, pointed to the lack of CCTV surveillance and persistent water supply issues as major safety concerns. Long-time resident Nitin Mane said water shortages have plagued parts of the area for nearly two decades, with PMC supply failing to reach several pockets.
Animal welfare volunteer Binoy Samuel emphasised that sterilisation and vaccination, rather than conflict, were the right approach to managing strays. Responding to the complaints, PMC’s Dog Control Department official Vijay Ovhal assured cooperation, stating that sterilisation vehicles would be deployed if residents reached out.
Citizens have additionally sought a continuous footpath from Khadi Machine Chowk to Undri Chowk, better internal roads, CCTV installation, regular patrolling, and reliable water and drainage infrastructure, urging PMC to act without further delay.
