The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated a crackdown on illegal drainage connections discharging sewage into stormwater pipelines in the Wagholi area, imposing a penalty of ₹50,000 on Shaw Toyota showroom for allegedly violating civic norms.

The action was taken following repeated complaints from residents living along Kesnand Road and in the J.J. Nagar locality, who alleged that sewage water was overflowing onto roads and public spaces, creating major health and sanitation concerns. Citizens had reportedly raised concerns over foul smell, unhygienic conditions and the risk of disease outbreaks due to untreated wastewater flowing through the area.

According to civic officials, complaints were received regarding illegal drainage connections being linked to stormwater lines along the Pune–Ahilyanagar Road stretch. Acting on these reports, officials from PMC’s health department conducted a detailed inspection at multiple locations in Wagholi to verify the allegations.

During the inspection drive, authorities reportedly discovered several illegal sewage discharge points connected to rainwater pipelines. Officials stated that Shaw Toyota showroom was also found releasing drainage water into a stormwater line, following which the civic administration imposed a fine of ₹50,000 on the establishment.

PMC officials warned that strict punitive action would continue against individuals, commercial establishments and organisations found illegally diverting sewage into stormwater drains. Authorities said such practices not only damage civic infrastructure but also pose a serious threat to public health and environmental safety, especially during the monsoon season.

The inspection and enforcement drive was carried out in the presence of BJP district general secretary Sandeep Satav along with PMC health department officials including Milind Khanode, Hanumant Salvi, Ashok Shirsagar, Suresh Ubale, Deepak Waghmare, Sagar Waghmare and other civic staff members.

Residents have welcomed the action and demanded continuous monitoring to prevent similar violations in rapidly developing suburban areas like Wagholi, where infrastructure pressure has increased significantly in recent years.
