Pune Shocker: Woman’s Throat Slashed with Blade by Friend in Chandannagar; Accused Absconding

A 22-year-old woman was critically injured after her friend allegedly slit her throat with a blade in Chandannagar, Pune. Police have registered a case and launched a search for the absconding accused.

Pune | May 01, 2026: A shocking incident of violent assault has been reported from Pathare Vasti in the Chandannagar area of Pune, where a 22-year-old woman was allegedly attacked by her acquaintance in a suspected fallout of a relationship dispute. The victim, identified as Ujaladevi Jaswantsing Dohare, is currently in critical condition and undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of a private hospital.

According to police officials, the accused has been identified as Dilip Rathod, also 22, against whom a case has been registered. The incident occurred on the night of April 29 at around 8:30 pm. A complaint in this regard was filed by the victim’s brother, Bhagat Singh Jaswantsing Dohare.

Preliminary investigation revealed that both the victim and the accused worked together at a mall in the Viman Nagar area, where they developed a personal relationship. However, tensions had reportedly escalated between them in recent days. On Wednesday night, the accused allegedly reached the victim’s residence when she was alone at home and attacked her by slashing her throat with a blade before fleeing the scene.

Despite severe injuries, the victim managed to contact her brother over the phone and later through a video call, during which she was seen in a bloodied condition and unable to speak. Family members and nearby residents rushed her to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Police officials who reached the hospital attempted to record her statement, but she was unable to speak due to her injuries. She reportedly asked for a pen and paper and wrote down the name of the accused, identifying her attacker.The incident has created panic in the locality, raising concerns over safety. The accused remains absconding, and police teams are actively conducting search operations to trace and apprehend him. Further investigation is underway.
