Maharashtra has finalised ₹1.5 crore per acre compensation for Purandar airport land acquisition. The process begins May 4, with six-month target completion across seven villages, boosting Pune’s infrastructure development

Pune | May 01, 2026: The Maharashtra government has officially fixed the compensation rate for land acquisition required for the proposed Purandar international airport at ₹1.5 crore per acre, marking a major step forward for the long-pending infrastructure project. The decision is expected to accelerate the acquisition process, which had previously faced delays due to uncertainty over final rates.

According to officials, the land acquisition process will commence from May 4, 2026, and will be carried out on a “first come, first served” basis. The administration has set an ambitious target of completing the acquisition of around 3,000 acres within six months across seven villages in Purandar taluka. These villages have already been identified and surveyed as part of the project planning.

The compensation package is not limited to land alone. Authorities have confirmed that separate valuations will be carried out for residential structures, wells, trees, and agricultural plantations on the affected properties. Payments will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of landowners through the district administration to ensure transparency and speed.

The project is being funded through a ₹6,000 crore loan arrangement sanctioned with government backing, with initial funds already being disbursed in phases. Officials stated that the financial structure has been designed to ensure smooth execution of land acquisition without delays in compensation payments.

The Purandar airport project is considered a key infrastructure initiative aimed at easing pressure on Pune’s existing airport and supporting the region’s growing aviation demand. Authorities believe the project will significantly boost connectivity, economic activity, and employment opportunities in Pune and surrounding regions.District officials have reiterated that the process will be conducted in a transparent manner, with priority given to timely settlement of landowners. With compensation rates now finalised and groundwork completed in multiple villages, the project is expected to move into its execution phase after years of planning and discussions.
