Authorities in Nashik have intensified action in the Trimbakeshwar temple case, where alleged overcharging for VIP darshan surfaced, leading to the arrest of a trustee and ongoing investigation.

April 15, 2026 | Nashik: A major controversy has erupted in Nashik’s Trimbakeshwar temple after allegations of illegal collection of money from devotees in the name of VIP darshan came to light. Police have arrested temple trustee Purushottam Kadlag and his associate, following complaints of financial exploitation of pilgrims seeking quicker access According to officials, the accused were taken into custody late Monday night on suspicion of running an organised system that targeted devotees waiting in long queues. It is alleged that agents approached pilgrims and offered them faster entry into the temple premises in exchange for hefty payments, significantly higher than the officially prescribed fee.
During court proceedings, the prosecution detailed the modus operandi, stating that while the authorised fee for VIP darshan is around ₹200, devotees were reportedly charged anywhere between ₹3,000 and ₹6,000. The amount was allegedly negotiated based on urgency, with higher payments ensuring quicker access. The court, after hearing arguments, remanded Kadlag and another to seven days of police custody to facilitate further investigation. Meanwhile, police are also searching for another suspect linked to the case who is currently absconding.

The incident has sparked widespread reaction in both political and religious circles, especially given the accused’s reported political affiliations. Authorities are now examining financial transactions and possible involvement of additional individuals in the alleged racket. Officials have assured that strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty, emphasising the need to maintain transparency and fairness in religious institutions. The case continues to unfold as investigators work to uncover the full extent of the alleged malpractice.
