Police in Pune have arrested 13 individuals, including Nilesh Ghaiwal, for extorting ₹44.36 lakh from a woman by threatening her life. The crime occurred between March 2024 and March 2025.

Pune, Oct 18, 2025 — A significant extortion case has been registered in Pune, leading to the arrest of 13 individuals, including Nilesh Ghaiwal and his brother Sachin Ghaiwal, for allegedly threatening a woman to extort ₹44.36 lakh. The victim, a partner in a company supplying food and transportation services to Millennium National School, reported the crime to the Warje Police Station.

According to the police, the extortion began in February 2024 when Bapu Kadam, a sports teacher at the school, introduced the woman to a dairy business named Kalpana Dairy, claiming it supplied milk and paneer. Despite paying ₹22 lakh in advance, the promised goods were never delivered. Kadam continued to make excuses, and in January 2025, he informed the woman that he worked for Nilesh Ghaiwal and that his brother, Sachin, was a teacher at the school. He insisted that she pay additional money for the year’s supplies, threatening to disrupt her business if she refused.

On one occasion, while the woman was leaving the school, Kadam blocked her car and was joined by Nilesh, Sachin, and others. Sachin allegedly threatened her life, demanding the money be transferred to Kadam’s account. Fearing for her safety, the woman complied and transferred ₹22.33 lakh. It was later discovered that the Kalpana Dairy did not exist.

The arrested individuals face charges under sections related to extortion and criminal conspiracy. Police Inspector Prakash Dende is leading the investigation into the case.
