3,500 Runners Participate in Ranjangaon ‘Maha Marathon’
The ninth edition of the Maha Marathon at Ranjangaon Ganpati drew 3,500 participants from across Maharashtra. Organised by RM Dhariwal Foundation and Mahaganpati Foundation, the event promoted fitness and environmental conservation.

May 6, 2026 | Pune: Marking Maharashtra Day and Labour Day, the ninth edition of the ‘Maha Marathon’ organised by RM Dhariwal Foundation in association with Mahaganpati Foundation was held with great enthusiasm at Ranjangaon Ganpati in Shirur taluka. The event, aimed at spreading awareness about health, fitness and environmental conservation, witnessed participation from nearly 3,500 runners from various districts of Maharashtra. The marathon has been organised annually since 2018 through the joint efforts of the RM Dhariwal Foundation and Mahaganpati Foundation. The event began at 6 am on Maharashtra Day, drawing runners of all age groups who took part with strong enthusiasm and community spirit.
Dhariwal Foundation vice-chairperson Shobha Dhariwal presided over the event. Popular actor Siddharth Jadhav and Punit Balan, chairman of the Punit Balan Group, attended as chief guests, encouraging participants and supporting the cause behind the marathon. Participants competed in two categories 3 km and 5 km and successfully completed the run. Adding to the excitement, students from Shobha Dhariwal Pre-School, Ranjangaon Ganpati, presented an impressive skating performance, earning applause from the crowd.
During the programme, Shobha Dhariwal highlighted the importance of maintaining good health through regular exercise and spoke about tree plantation and the value of oxygen-giving trees in environmental protection. Her message focused on promoting a sustainable lifestyle along with physical fitness.

In the 5 km category, Monu Kumar from Jalgaon secured first place in the boys’ group, while Shivani Diwakar from Satara topped the girls’ category. In the 3 km run, Akash Rathod from Amravati won the boys’ title and Aditi Hargude from Pune finished first among girls. The organisers were also felicitated by residents of Ganegaon Khalsa village for their continued efforts in hosting the marathon. Several local leaders and officials, including Bapusaheb Shinde, Vikram Pachundkar, Rajesh Lande, Kaluram Pachundkar and MIDC junior engineer Bhushan Thange, were present along with a large number of volunteers.
