Cocaine Worth ₹79.5 Crore Seized from Toys at Mumbai Airport, Two Women Arrested
DRI busts major smuggling attempt: 7.95 kg cocaine hidden inside toy packages seized at Mumbai airport; two women taken into custody.
Pune, October 04, 2025: In a shocking disclosure, law enforcement officials announced that 7.95 kg of cocaine, estimated to be worth ₹79.5 crore on the black market, was seized at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport after being concealed inside toy packages. Two women arriving from Bangkok were intercepted based on intelligence inputs and had their luggage thoroughly examined, leading to the discovery of 22 brick-shaped packets hidden among children’s play items. Field testing using NDPS detection kits confirmed the substance as cocaine, and both suspects have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985.
This seizure reflects a growing trend in narcotic trafficking—criminal networks are increasingly using ordinary consumer products like toys, food items, books, and electronics as cover for smuggling. The audacity and creativity of these concealment methods underscore how smugglers are evolving to bypass stricter scanning and intelligence measures at international airports. Investigators are now probing deeper to trace the syndicate behind the operation, with a focus on financial trails, communication links, and possible accomplices both within India and overseas.
The Mumbai bust adds to a rising number of high-value drug interceptions at Indian airports in recent months, where traffickers have attempted to smuggle narcotics inside Oreo boxes, chocolate packs, and even under diplomatic covers. These cases highlight the urgent need for more robust detection technologies, enhanced inter-agency coordination, and real-time intelligence sharing to thwart these sophisticated smuggling attempts.
While this operation represents a significant victory for anti-narcotics agencies, the challenge ahead lies in dismantling the wider networks orchestrating such trafficking. Only through persistent surveillance, upgraded screening protocols, and aggressive prosecution can authorities hope to stay ahead in the cat-and-mouse game with transnational drug cartels.
