Pune PMC Plans Expansion of Sangamwadi RTO Railway Underbridge to Alleviate Traffic Congestion
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) announces plans to expand the railway underbridge near Sangamwadi RTO and appoint a consultant for a new route to ease traffic congestion in the area.
Pune | October 10, 2025 — The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated plans to expand the railway underbridge located near the Sangamwadi Regional Transport Office (RTO) to address persistent traffic congestion in the area. This move aims to improve vehicular movement between Sangamwadi and Mangala and enhance connectivity to key locations such as Deccan College, Yerawada, and Pune Airport.
The existing underbridge, constructed over a century ago, has a width of just nine meters, insufficient to accommodate the growing traffic demands. The narrow passage often leads to bottlenecks, especially during peak hours, affecting commuters and freight movement alike. To alleviate these issues, the PMC plans to widen the underbridge and appoint a consultant to design a new route that bypasses the congested junction.
The proposed expansion is part of the PMC’s broader efforts to improve urban mobility and infrastructure. In addition to the underbridge project, the civic body is also considering the construction of a flyover and a grade separator at the Sangamwadi Chowk to further ease traffic flow. These initiatives are expected to significantly reduce travel time and enhance the overall commuting experience for residents and visitors.
As the project progresses, the PMC is committed to ensuring minimal disruption to daily traffic and will keep the public informed about developments and timelines. The expansion of the Sangamwadi RTO railway underbridge is anticipated to be a pivotal step in addressing Pune’s growing infrastructure needs and improving the city’s traffic management system.
