Solapur court rejects bail plea of Pooja Gaikwad, arrested in the suicide case of former deputy sarpanch Govind Barge. Legal arguments highlight societal concerns.

Solapur, Oct 18, 2025 — In a significant development in the case of former deputy sarpanch Govind Barge, a Solapur court has denied bail to Pooja Gaikwad, a 21-year-old folk dancer arrested for allegedly abetting his suicide. Barge was found dead with a gunshot wound in his car outside Gaikwad’s mother’s residence in Sasure village, Beed district, on September 9.

The prosecution argued that granting bail to Gaikwad could send a wrong message to society, potentially encouraging similar offenses. They highlighted the serious nature of the allegations and the need to uphold justice. In contrast, Gaikwad’s defense contended that she was being falsely implicated and that the evidence against her was insufficient.

The court’s decision to reject the bail plea underscores the seriousness with which the legal system is treating this case. Gaikwad remains in custody as investigations continue.
