Election officers report technical issues caused names of several Amravati residents to be missing from the voter list. Authorities and citizen groups are addressing the problem.

Amravati, Oct 18, 2025 — During recent elections in Maharashtra, the names of hundreds of voters in Amravati were found missing from the official voter list, raising concerns among local citizen groups and social organizations. These groups have urged the State Election Commission to rectify the issue before the upcoming elections.

At several polling stations in Amravati and surrounding areas, at least 25 names were missing per booth, indicating a widespread problem. Citizen groups, including the Bombay Catholic Sabha, have begun compiling lists of missing voters and are planning camps to help them re-register.

According to Kiran Kulkarni, Additional Chief Electoral Officer of the state, voter names can be removed for three reasons: repeated absence from elections, relocation, or death. Voters whose names were removed after December 2023 are still eligible to vote if listed as “removed” in the official records. However, some citizens reported that they could not cast their votes because election officers were unable or unavailable to assist them.

Citizen groups have brought the issue to the attention of the Election Commission, urging immediate corrective measures to ensure accuracy and transparency in the voter lists.
