Mumbai|25 November 2025: Marathi actress Madhura Velankar recently spoke out on a deeply rooted social issue: gender equality in parenting. In a candid interview, she urged parents to stop giving different treatment to boys and girls, emphasizing that children should be raised simply as human beings, not based on their gender.

According to Velankar, many parents unintentionally perpetuate gender bias from assigning chores to children, to defining roles based on whether they have a son or a daughter. She argues that these early lessons shape a child’s worldview and self‑worth. Instead, she advocates for “no discrimination,” and for instilling the values of equality and mutual respect right from childhood.

Velankar also referenced her own experience as a mother. She believes that fair treatment is not just about assigning tasks but also about encouraging both boys and girls equally in their ambitions, education, and emotional development. She thinks a child’s gender should not dictate their opportunities or how they are valued in the family.
