Brave Pune Mother Battles Leopard Bare-Handed to Save Her Baby, Escapes with Child
A Pune mother fought off a leopard with her bare hands when the predator attacked her baby at night — her courage saved the child’s life and shook the community.
Pune| December 01, 2025: In a startling encounter near Pune, a young mother risked her life to save her baby from a leopard attack. The incident took place late at night when she and her 18-month-old child were sleeping outside their home. A leopard suddenly pounced, grabbing the baby. Without hesitation, the mother leapt into action. She struck the animal with her bare hands, shouting to alert others. Startled, the leopard released the child and fled into nearby fields.
The toddler was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Though frightened and shaken, the child’s injuries were reportedly non-life-threatening. Forest officials who reached the location confirmed the family worked as sugarcane farmers, residing near forested or farmland areas prone to such wildlife encounters.
Residents say such incidents are a grim reminder of increasing human–wildlife conflict in the region. Locals often live and work close to forest boundaries, making accidental encounters with wild animals — especially leopards — a recurring danger. The community now demands better preventive measures, including secure shelters, regular patrolling, and awareness about safety at night.
This dramatic rescue by a mother’s sheer courage has reignited debate over wildlife management and human safety, especially in areas where farmland and jungle areas overlap. Authorities say they are reviewing the case and assessing whether stricter safeguards or relocation support might be needed to prevent similar incidents in future.
