Over a three-day special drive, Pune Traffic Police booked 172 motorists for drunk driving across 30 checkpoints in the city, reinforcing strict enforcement as year-end visits rise.
Pune| December 01, 2025: Pune Traffic Police carried out a three-day intensive campaign from November 28 to November 30, targeting motorists driving under the influence of alcohol. The drive covered 30 strategic checkpoints across the city during late evening and night hours. At the end of the operation, a total of 172 motorists were booked for drunk driving.
Officials said all offenders were penalised under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, and legal proceedings have started against them. The department has also warned of stricter enforcement in the coming weeks, especially as holiday season traffic increases.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Himmat Jadhav, urged citizens to refrain from driving after consuming alcohol. “Drunk driving is a serious offence and endangers lives,” he said, calling for responsible behaviour on roads.
This crackdown is part of a broader city-wide effort to improve road safety ahead of year-end festivities. Authorities emphasized that consistent enforcement and public cooperation are essential to reduce accidents and save lives.
