After record cold, minimum temperatures in Pune rise significantly over recent days, easing the winter chill across the city and surrounding areas.

January 14, 2026 | Pune: Pune has seen a noticeable change in weather conditions over the past few days as minimum temperatures across the city and surrounding areas have begun to rise after touching season-low levels earlier this month. The sudden cold spell had pushed night-time temperatures to unusually low readings, with some parts of the district recording single-digit minimums, making it one of the chilliest phases of the current winter.

On January 9, several locations reported minimum temperatures dropping to around 6.9 degrees Celsius, surprising residents and prompting increased use of winter clothing and heating appliances. The sharp dip was attributed to strong northerly winds and clear night skies, which allowed rapid heat loss after sunset. However, this intense cold phase proved to be short-lived.

Over the following days, minimum temperatures began rising steadily across Pune. By mid-January, night-time temperatures had climbed by nearly seven to eight degrees Celsius in many areas, easing the severity of the cold. Central and suburban parts of the city reported minimums in the range of 16 to 20 degrees Celsius, indicating a clear warming trend compared to the earlier chill.

Localities such as Wadgaon Sheri, Magarpatta, Chinchwad, and Koregaon Park recorded relatively warmer nights, with temperatures nearing or crossing the 19-degree mark. Within the city, areas like Shivajinagar, Ambegaon, and Pashan also experienced higher minimum temperatures than earlier in the week. Even outlying regions and suburbs saw an upward shift, reflecting the widespread nature of the change.
