MUHS cancels affiliation of Sinhgad Dental College and Hospital from the 2026–27 academic year due to repeated non-compliance with standards.

Pune| 31January,2026: The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has decided to cancel the affiliation of Sinhgad Dental College and Hospital in Pune from the 2026–27 academic year, marking a major regulatory action in the state’s dental education sector. The decision follows repeated inspections that reportedly found persistent shortcomings in academic standards, infrastructure, and regulatory compliance, despite multiple notices and opportunities given to the institution to rectify the issues.

According to university officials, inspection teams highlighted deficiencies related to teaching staff availability, infrastructure facilities, and adherence to prescribed norms required for dental education. MUHS officials stated that the college failed to implement corrective measures within the stipulated time frame, leading the university to take the final step of withdrawing affiliation to protect academic standards and student interests.

With the cancellation of affiliation, Sinhgad Dental College and Hospital will not be allowed to admit new students to undergraduate or postgraduate dental courses from the 2026–27 academic session. This decision effectively closes fresh admissions at the institution, requiring prospective students to seek enrollment in other recognized dental colleges affiliated with MUHS or other approved universities.

To ensure that existing students do not suffer academic loss, MUHS has assured that all currently enrolled students will be permanently shifted to other private dental colleges within Maharashtra. The university will oversee the transfer process to ensure continuity of education, compliance with regulatory guidelines, and minimal disruption to students’ academic progress.

The decision is also linked to administrative concerns, including unresolved issues related to the payment of salaries to teaching and non-teaching staff. Prolonged delays in salary disbursement and staff grievances were among the factors reviewed during the evaluation of the college’s functioning, raising serious concerns about institutional management and sustainability.

Education experts note that MUHS has intensified its monitoring of affiliated institutions in recent years, adopting a stricter approach toward compliance and quality assurance. The university has reiterated that maintaining high standards in health sciences education is essential to safeguard student careers and public healthcare outcomes.

In conclusion, the cancellation of Sinhgad Dental College and Hospital’s affiliation from the 2026–27 academic year represents a significant move toward enforcing accountability in dental education. While future admissions at the college will be halted, the university’s assurance of student transfers aims to protect the academic interests of those already enrolled. The development sends a strong message to institutions across the state about the importance of regulatory compliance and educational quality.
