Zimbabwe defeated Australia by 23 runs in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, marking their first win against Australia in the tournament since 2007, powered by disciplined batting and incisive bowling
Colombo|February 13, 2026: Zimbabwe produced one of the biggest upsets of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 by beating Australia by 23 runs in a Group B match at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday.
Put into bat, Zimbabwe posted a competitive 169/2 in 20 overs, led by a classy unbeaten 64 off 56 balls by Brian Bennett and useful contributions from Tadiwanashe Marumani and Sikandar Raza. The innings included smart batting partnerships that helped Zimbabwe set a challenging target for Australia’s strong batting unit.
Australia’s chase never gained momentum as their top order collapsed early under sustained pressure from Zimbabwe’s bowling attack. Tall pacer Blessing Muzarabani starred with figures of 4‑17, while Brad Evans added key wickets, dismantling Australia’s lineup and restricting them to 146.

A highlight of the fielding effort came from Tony Munyonga, whose athletic catch was widely seen as a turning point that tilted momentum in Zimbabwe’s favour.
The victory is historic for Zimbabwe, replicating their rare triumph over Australia from the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 the only other time they beat the Kangaroos in this format and underlining Zimbabwe’s competitive progress at the global level.
With this result, Zimbabwe strengthen their World Cup campaign hopes, while Australia will regroup and look to respond in their remaining fixtures.
