The Uttar Pradesh government has announced the DDU-GKY 2.0 scheme with a ₹3,349-crore budget to provide skill training and employment opportunities to nearly five lakh rural youth
Lucknow | 07 March, 2026: The Uttar Pradesh government has launched an expanded version of the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY 2.0), aiming to provide skill training and employment opportunities to around five lakh rural youth across the state. The initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen rural livelihoods and enhance employability among young people.

Under the scheme, the state government has approved an allocation of about ₹3,349 crore to train youth in different sectors and connect them with job opportunities. The programme focuses primarily on young people from rural and economically weaker backgrounds who often struggle to find stable employment.
Officials said the scheme will provide industry-relevant training in fields such as manufacturing, services, information technology, hospitality and other emerging sectors. After completing training, candidates will also receive assistance in securing placements in companies within India or abroad.

The programme is designed to equip rural youth with practical skills and improve their chances of obtaining regular wage employment. The Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana is a key component of the national rural livelihood mission and focuses on skilling young people aged 15 to 35 from economically disadvantaged families.
According to officials, the initiative will also emphasise placement-linked training so that participants not only receive skill education but also gain access to real employment opportunities after completing their courses.

The Yogi Adityanath government believes the programme will help reduce unemployment in rural areas and enable young people to become financially independent. By expanding skill development infrastructure and strengthening industry partnerships, the government aims to create a large pool of trained manpower capable of meeting the demands of modern industries.
