A Pune Police sub-inspector has been booked by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for allegedly demanding a ₹2 lakh bribe in a case.

Pune, 10 March, 2026: A police sub-inspector from Pune has been booked by the Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹2 lakh from a complainant in exchange for providing favourable assistance in a case. The action was taken after the complainant approached the anti-corruption agency and reported the alleged demand made by the officer.

According to officials, the accused officer was serving with the Pune City Police and had allegedly sought the bribe to help the complainant in a police-related matter. After receiving the complaint, ACB officials carried out a preliminary verification to confirm the authenticity of the allegations before initiating formal legal action.

Following the verification process, the ACB registered a case against the officer under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Investigators stated that the officer had allegedly demanded money in return for influencing official procedures and extending assistance in the matter.

Officials from the anti-corruption agency said further investigation is underway to gather additional evidence and determine the exact circumstances surrounding the alleged demand. Authorities are also examining whether any other individuals may have been involved in the incident.

Cases related to bribery or corruption involving government officials are typically handled by the Anti-Corruption Bureau, which conducts verification before registering offences and initiating legal proceedings. The agency has been actively conducting investigations and trap operations across Maharashtra to curb corruption in public services.
