PCMC has introduced the Mayor’s Medical Financial Assistance Scheme to help economically weaker residents access costly medical treatment and surgeries.
Pune, March 10, 2026: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has launched a new welfare initiative aimed at helping economically weaker residents access essential medical treatment. The civic body recently introduced the Mayor’s Medical Financial Assistance Scheme, which is designed to provide financial support to patients who cannot afford expensive healthcare services or surgical procedures.
The scheme has been introduced with the objective of ensuring that residents from low-income backgrounds are not forced to delay or avoid necessary treatment due to financial constraints. Rising healthcare costs often create a significant burden for families dealing with serious illnesses, and civic authorities say the programme aims to offer timely support during such situations.

Under the initiative, financial assistance will be provided directly for medical treatment. Instead of handing over funds to individuals, the amount will be issued through a cheque in the name of the hospital where the patient is undergoing treatment. This mechanism has been designed to maintain transparency and ensure that the financial aid is used strictly for healthcare purposes.
Officials from the civic administration said the scheme is intended to benefit patients suffering from serious diseases or those requiring high-cost medical procedures. By offering financial assistance, the municipal corporation hopes to ensure that residents receive proper treatment without facing delays caused by financial difficulties.
Residents who wish to avail themselves of the scheme must submit an application at the Mayor’s Office located at the PCMC headquarters. The application must be accompanied by several supporting documents to confirm eligibility. These include a copy of the patient’s Aadhaar card, ration card, an income certificate issued by the tehsildar’s office, and a recommendation letter from the local corporator.

Applicants are also required to provide a detailed estimate of treatment expenses issued by the hospital where the patient will receive care. The estimate must carry the signature and official stamp of the treating doctor to verify the authenticity of the medical requirement.
Once the application is submitted, the documents will be reviewed by civic officials to verify eligibility and confirm the details provided. After the verification process is completed, financial assistance will be approved and issued to the hospital concerned.
Urban healthcare experts believe such municipal assistance schemes can play a crucial role in bridging the gap between healthcare accessibility and financial limitations. In rapidly growing urban areas where medical expenses continue to rise, local government support programmes can help vulnerable families receive timely treatment.
