In a significant move aimed at modernizing Mumbai’s suburban rail network, the Ministry of Railways has announced the introduction of 238 new closed-door local trains. This initiative, part of a broader urban transport upgrade, is expected to enhance commuter safety, reduce overcrowding, and improve overall service efficiency in India’s financial capital.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that the new trains will operate on key suburban routes and are equipped with advanced safety features, including automatic doors, improved braking systems, and energy-efficient traction mechanisms. The minister also emphasized plans to expand Mumbai’s local train network, integrating new technologies and infrastructure upgrades to meet the rising commuter demand.

Mumbai’s suburban railway, often referred to as the lifeline of the city, carries over 7.5 million passengers daily.
