March 13 | New Delhi:The Central government has prioritised domestic gas supply to ensure uninterrupted cooking fuel for nearly 330 million families across the country, even as industrial and fertiliser sectors face temporary reductions due to global energy disruptions.Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri informed the Lok Sabha that the government issued a Natural Gas Allocation Control Order on March 9 to regulate distribution during the ongoing crisis. The move comes amid supply concerns triggered by geopolitical tensions affecting global energy markets.

Under the revised allocation system, the supply of piped natural gas (PNG) for households and compressed natural gas (CNG) used in vehicles will continue at full capacity. However, industrial and manufacturing consumers will receive around 80 percent of their average gas consumption recorded over the past six months. Fertiliser plants, which play a crucial role in the agricultural supply chain, will receive approximately 70 percent of their usual gas supply to ensure fertiliser production continues ahead of the upcoming sowing season.

Meanwhile, the government has also warned against hoarding and black marketing of essential commodities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi cautioned that strict action will be taken against those attempting to exploit the situation by stockpiling or selling essential goods at inflated prices. In Maharashtra, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal stated that the state government is closely monitoring LPG supply and has instructed companies to increase production to maintain steady distribution. Authorities have also warned that illegal storage of LPG cylinders will invite criminal action.Officials remain hopeful that the supply situation will gradually stabilise as production rises and global conditions improve
