Iran has expressed readiness to support any peace initiative to end the ongoing conflict, while maintaining restrictions on shipping linked to the United States and Israel through the strategic Strait of Hormuz

March 16 | Tehran :Iran has indicated a willingness to support diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in West Asia, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stating that Tehran would welcome any credible initiative that could bring a complete halt to the war. Speaking on the 16th day of the conflict, Araghchi said Iran remains open to proposals aimed at restoring peace and stability in the region. However, he clarified that the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz would remain closed to vessels linked to the United States and Israel. According to the Iranian government, the maritime route through which a significant share of global oil trade passes continues to remain open for other international shipping.

The foreign minister warned that Iran would respond strongly if its oil infrastructure becomes a target of military attacks. He cautioned that any strike on Iranian energy facilities could trigger retaliatory action against oil installations across the Persian Gulf region. Reports have also suggested that Iran has allowed limited passage for certain ships linked to countries such as India and China, highlighting Tehran’s attempt to avoid disrupting broader international trade while maintaining pressure on its adversaries. Araghchi also dismissed claims made by Pete Hegseth that Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei had been injured during the conflict. He asserted that the country’s leadership remains fully functional and that Iran’s political system is stable and not dependent on a single individual.

In addition, Iranian officials accused the United States of attempting to damage Tehran’s global reputation. Araghchi alleged that Washington had replicated Iran’s Shahed‑136 drone to potentially stage attacks in Arab nations in order to falsely implicate Iran. Despite escalating tensions, Iranian authorities stated that their military operations have been limited to US bases and strategic interests in the region. Araghchi added that Iran would be willing to support impartial investigations if neighbouring countries raised concerns over attacks attributed to Tehran
