Security guard injured after being attacked by two drunk men in Pune’s Mohammadwadi area; incident raises safety concerns in housing societies.

Pune | 20 March, 2026: A shocking incident in Pune’s Mohammadwadi area has raised serious concerns over the safety of residential societies after a security guard was brutally assaulted by two allegedly drunk men at Ganga Kingston Society. The attack occurred on the evening of March 20, 2026, when the guard, identified as Devanand Dongare, was on duty at the exit gate and attempted to stop two individuals from entering the premises without authorization. According to the complaint submitted to the police, the situation quickly escalated into violence when the men, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, attacked the guard with sticks and physically overpowered him.

The guard sustained multiple injuries in the assault and required immediate medical attention, with reports confirming that he received six stitches due to the severity of the attack. The incident has triggered fear among residents, especially considering that security personnel are the first line of defense in gated communities. The complaint regarding the assault was formally submitted to the Senior Police Inspector of Kalepadal Police Station by a local social activist, who has demanded strict action against the accused and enhanced security measures in the area.

This incident highlights a growing pattern of alcohol-related violence in Pune, particularly in residential and semi-urban areas. Security guards often face risks while enforcing basic rules such as verifying entries, managing visitors, and ensuring resident safety. Experts point out that such attacks not only endanger the lives of security personnel but also expose vulnerabilities in residential security systems. With Pune expanding rapidly and witnessing increased population density in areas like Mohammadwadi, maintaining law and order within private societies has become a pressing concern.

Authorities have been urged to intensify night patrolling and implement stricter surveillance systems, including CCTV monitoring and visitor management protocols, to prevent such incidents. Residents’ associations are also being encouraged to conduct regular safety audits and provide better support and protection for on-duty security staff.

The case is expected to lead to further investigation, with police likely to identify and take action against the accused individuals. Meanwhile, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by frontline security workers and the urgent need for stronger enforcement mechanisms in residential communities.
